The Jharkhand State Cricket Association has lodged an official complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India following a controversial scoring error that allegedly eliminated their women’s under-19 team from the T20 Championship. Jharkhand suffered a narrow one-run defeat against Uttarakhand in a high-stakes pre-quarter-final encounter held in Nagpur last week, a result they argue was fundamentally altered by a critical administrative mistake on the scoresheet.

Disputed Final Over and Match Situation

Chasing a target of 135 runs for victory, Jharkhand entered the final over needing eight runs with three wickets remaining after finishing the 19th over at 127 for 7. The turning point arrived on the fourth delivery when batter Lakshmi Kumari was run out while attempting a secondary run alongside partner Eshika Bhagat. Match footage reviewed internally by the team confirmed that the batters had successfully completed the first run before the dismissal occurred. However, the official scorers recorded only the dismissal while omitting the completed single, incorrectly leaving Jharkhand needing five runs from the final two balls instead of four. Despite subsequent scoring adjustments on later deliveries, Jharkhand ultimately finished their innings at 133 for 8, falling agonizingly short by a single run.

  • Jharkhand finished the 19th over at 127/7, requiring eight runs from the final six deliveries to win.
  • The official scorers allegedly failed to credit a completed single on the fourth ball of the final over.
  • Jharkhand ultimately concluded their innings at 133/8, losing the pre-quarter-final by one run.
  • Head coach Jaskaran Singh formally notified match referee Anupa Narvekar immediately after the presentation ceremony.

Call for Thorough Investigation

Expressing deep dismay over the outcome, head coach Jaskaran Singh highlighted the historic nature of the tournament for the state side. This marked the very first time that Jharkhand’s women’s under-19 team had successfully qualified for the knockout stages of the prestigious national tournament. Team management reviewed video evidence of the final over extensively before escalating the grievance to the national governing body. The association has formally requested a comprehensive review from the board to ensure technological and human scoring errors are permanently eradicated from junior developmental tournaments, protecting young athletes from losing crucial competitive opportunities.
