India Started Their CWG Campaign

India started their CWG campaign with  dominating victories after an exciting first day. Indian players saw astonishing victories in many sports events. The men’s Table Tennis team beat Barbados and Singapore 3-0 each in the group stage tie assuring them a place in the quarterfinal. In the meantime, the women’s Table Tennis team had the same experience with identical wins against South Africa and Fiji to qualify for the knockouts. 

The Indian Women’s Hockey team secured a stunning 5-0 victory against Ghana in their Pool A opener. Further, the Indian Mixed Badminton team completed a 5-0 clean sweep against Pakistan. To end the day, Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men’s 100m backstroke final. 

One of the main attractions for India came when 14 year old squash player Anahat Singh secured a sensational win in Round of 64 women’s singles tie. Shiva Thapa won his men’s 63.5 Kg Round of 32 bout against Pakistan’s Suleman Baloch.

Harmanpreet Kaur led Indian Women’s Cricket team lost against Australia in their group-stage opener by 3 wickets. Taniya Choudhury had a disappointing start in the Lawn Bowls women’s singles event as she faced a 21-10 loss to Scotland’s Dee Hoggan. Overall, it was a decent start for India.
