India gets a bad start as South Africa wins the first match of the three-match series. Pressure falls on the Indian team. They have to win the remaining two matches to claim the series. Rassie van der Dussen of South Africa is the Player of the Match.
South Africa opted to bat after winning the toss. Bavuma(110) and van der Dussen(129) pretty much built the score which India had to chase. Indian bowlers were unable to limit the runflow of South Africa. They were struggling to get a wicket. Bumrah finally managed to get Bavuma out in 48.1 overs when Rahul caught him.
de Kock(27) was another scorer for the South African team. Bumrah was able to get 2 wickets while Ashwin took a wicket. Venkatesh Iyer was able to run out Markram. In total, India took 4 wickets and limited South Africa to 296-4 in 50 overs along with 18 extras.
India began the chase. Thakur(50 not out), Dhawan(79), and Kohli(51) were the major scorers for India. Others who scored were Rahul(12), Pant(16), Shreyas Iyer(17), and Bumrah(14 not out). With 13 extras, India reached upto 265-8 in 50 overs.
It was a bad start for India. Now, the pressure falls on the Indian team to win the rest of the games if they have to win the series. The South African bowlers were very much successful in plucking out wickets. They managed to eliminate 8 of the Indian batsmen. Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Lungi Ngidi got two wickets each. Keshav Maharaj and Aiden Markram were able to get a wicket each. Between them they got 8 wickets. India was off to a bad start in the tour. The team now have the responsibility to win the rest of the matches so that India is able to claim the series.
