The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 schedule was revealed. The event is set to start on 16 October 2022 when the former champions Sri Lanka will battle Namibia in Round1. The final is anticipated on November 16 2022.
The existing champions Australia will host the event. They will begin their campaign against New Zealand whom they defeated in the 2021 finals to claim the championship for the first time in their history. Two time champions West Indies will have to go through the qualifying stage to make the Super 12 stage this time.
India, who had won the inaugural event in 2007 will start their campaign once again opposite Pakistan on 23 October 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
There are two stages to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which are the First Round and the Super 12. The first round will see West Indies, Sri Lanka, Scotland and Namibia in action along with 4 qualifiers. From this eight, four will progress into the Super 12 stage where they are to join the eight teams that have already qualified for the tournament proper.
These eight teams have been divided into two groups A and B with the top two teams from each group going ahead.
The super 12 stage has the 12 teams divided into two groups of six each. The Group1 will have Australia, New Zealand, England, Afghanistan, winner of Group A and runner up of Group B. India,Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, winner of Group B and runner up of Group A will comprise Group 2.
