Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been officially ruled out of India’s upcoming five-match ODI series in New Zealand as he continues his ongoing rehabilitation from a left hamstring injury. Instead of featuring in the limited-overs fixtures, the fast bowler will join the India A squad for their third and final four-day match against New Zealand A to gain valuable match practice and workloads.

The decision was confirmed by the national selection committee and team management to ensure the pacer builds sufficient physical readiness ahead of the crucial two-Test series. The Test matches are scheduled to begin on November 19, following the conclusion of the ODI series which runs from November 4 to November 15 across various venues in the country.

Squad Adjustments and Match Practice

  • Prasidh Krishna will skip the entire ODI series to focus purely on red-ball preparation with India A.
  • Mohammed Siraj has been made available to participate in the second four-day fixture for India A.
  • Nitish Kumar Reddy will stay with the senior ODI squad for the opening fixture on November 4 before transitioning to the A squad.
  • The strategic movement aims to provide essential match exposure to players earmarked for the Test matches.

Path to the Test Series

Management remains cautious about rushing recovering players straight into high-intensity international fixtures without proper build-up time. By slotting Prasidh into the longer format with the A team, selectors hope to evaluate his bowling fitness and endurance over multiple days. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj’s inclusion in the secondary red-ball fixture adds further depth and experience to the touring developmental side.

The senior squad will play the first three ODIs under a selected group of players before squad adjustments take effect for the final two games. The transition of players like Nitish Kumar Reddy highlights a coordinated strategy between the senior team and the developmental setup to keep the red-ball pool match-ready for the challenges awaiting them later in November.
