Two-time Olympic medallist and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has confirmed that he is feeling much better in his recovery from an ankle injury and is fully focused on making a strong return to competitive athletics next year. The star athlete was forced to cut his season short after sustaining an ankle injury during a training session back in August, which ruled him out of major international competitions including the Diamond League Final and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Speaking on the sidelines of a public event, Chopra noted that while there is still plenty of time before the 2028 Olympic Games, his current priority is completing his rehabilitation and regaining peak physical condition. The javelin star also took time to praise the emergence of younger Indian throwing talent, highlighting the silver and bronze medal performances of Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav at the recent continental games.

Injury Recovery and Future Plans

  • Injury Setback: Chopra suffered an ankle injury during a training session in August, prematurely ending his 2026 competitive season.
  • Missed Events: The physical setback forced the world champion to miss the Diamond League Final and the Asian Games.
  • Positive Outlook: Chopra confirmed to reporters that his ankle is healing well and he is actively working on his comeback trail.
  • Youth Praise: He commended young throwers Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav for stepping up and winning medals in his absence.

Looking Ahead to 2028

With his rehabilitation progressing smoothly, Chopra remains optimistic about regaining his championship form ahead of the upcoming international calendar. The emergence of a strong second tier of javelin throwers in India has provided a massive boost to the national athletics circuit, ensuring depth and high-level competition even when senior stars are sidelined. Chopra emphasized the importance of staying injury-free and managing workload carefully as he prepares to return to the global stage.
