Gujarat Titans beat Kolkata Knight Riders in an exciting IPL match on 23 April 2022 Saturday. It was a great match which had some moments that should be noticed. Gujarat Titans won the toss and decided to bat first. Their strategy played out in the end as they won by 8 runs. Kolkata Knight Riders tried their level best to chase the target, but they failed in attaining the needed score. Rahid Khan of Gujarat was awarded the Player of the Match for his efforts.
W Saha and Shubman Gill opened for Gujarat. Hardik Pandya(67) had the highest score in the team. Other players who helped in building the team total were Miller(27), W Saha(25), Rahul Tewatia(17), Shubman Gill(7), Abhinav Manohar(2), Alzarri Joseph(1 not out). Rashid Khan, Lockie Ferguson,and Yash Dayal failed to score any runs. With 10 extras, the Gujarat team raked up a score of 156-9 in 20 overs.
Kolkata bowlers did a great job at getting wickets, but they failed to control the run flow. Russell got 4 wickets while Southee picked up 3 wickets. Umesh Yadav and Shivam Mavi gained a wicket each. The Kolkata bowlers had a grip over the Gujarat batsmen, but the Gujarat bowlers had an even better understanding of how the Kolkata batsmen worked.
Sam Billings and Sunil Narine opened for Kolkata in the hopes of chasing down the target. The top individual score for the team came from Andre Russell(48). Other players who joined the chase were Rinku Singh(35), Venkatesh Iyer(17), Umesh Yadav(15 not out), Shreyas Iyer(12), Narine(5), Billings(4), Nitish Rana(2), Shivam Mavi(2), Southee(1 not out). With 7 extras, the team total came to 148-8 in 20 overs.
Gujarat bowlers were able to get wickets and restrict run flow. Mohammed Shami, Yash Dayal and Rashid Khan got 2 wickets each, while Alzarri Joseph and Lockie Ferguson gained a wicket each. In the end, Gujarat Titans won by 8 runs.
