ICC Announces Schedule For Men’s T20 World Cup 2021

  1. ICC announces the schedule for men’s T20 world cup 2021. The tournament is  set to commence with a round 1 match between Oman and Papua New Guinea on 17 October 2021 at Oman Cricket Academy Ground.

The super 12 matches to start on 23rd

 October 2021 with a match between Australia and South Africa at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. India to go against Pakistan on 24th October 2021.

The tournament, hosted by India in the United Arab Emirates and Oman which consists of 16 teams, is the seventh edition of the T20 world cup.

The ICC has decided on four venues to hold the matches – Dubai International stadium, Oman Cricket Academy (Muscat), Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Zayed Cricket stadium (Abu Dhabi).

India decided to host the tournament in UAE as there is a chance of a third wave of covid in India. The fans were disappointed as it is when the 2020 tournament was cancelled that they didn’t want it happening again. 

ICC released the complete schedule on 17th August 2021. The much awaited match between India and Pakistan is set to be on 24th October 2021 at the Dubai International Stadium, as well as the rivals England and Australia go head to head at the same venue six days later, on 30th October 2021. 

West Indies will try defending their title on the same day as the super 12 matches start in Dubai against England.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands, Oman, PNG and Scotland will battle it out for positions in the super 12 where host India and nine other top teams in the ICC Men’s T20 player rankings got direct entries. The top two teams from each group of round 1 get a place in the top 12.

The first semi-final match is to be held at Abu Dhabi whereas the other semi-final and the finals are to be held at Dubai.

The matches are to start at 14h00 or 18h00 respectively based on whether it is a day match or a day night match.

Fans are excited to see the teams battle it out for the T20 world cup after the tournament being cancelled last year.
