The first test match between India versus England resulted into a big defeat for the team India, as England registered a glorious victory in Chennai. England thrashed the Indian team by 227-run in the opening Test of the tournament. The captain of the England cricket team Joe Root showcased an amazing performance in the match and that affected very badly the hopes of India’s victory in the opening test match.
Root smashed a double century in the first innings of the match and he became the first batsman to do so in his 100th Test as he scored 218 and guided his side to 578 in the first innings. It is worth mentioning that he was also the highest scorer with 40 in the second innings of 178.

Anderson also dismissed Pant for 11 and he was the hero of team India in the first innings of the match. Then the captain of England introduced spinner Dom Bess and he chipped in with the wicket of Washington Sundar for nought and the host slipped to 117-6.
India captain Virat Kohli fought and smashed his 24th Test fifty before being bowled by Ben Stokes.
The second Test match of the tournament will start on Saturday with spectators allowed at Chennai’s M.A.Chidambaram Stadium.
