The Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly preparing a massive restructuring of its central contracts for the 2026-27 season, with all-format head coach Mike Hesson strongly advocating for a generational shift. Sources close to the board indicate that several emerging talents are in line for maiden international deals, while senior campaigners face the prospect of being left off the roster entirely.

Contract Overhaul and Emerging Talents

Head coach Mike Hesson has placed a heavy emphasis on strict fitness standards, on-field execution, skill progression, and positive dressing room culture when evaluating players for the upcoming international cycle. As a result, a substantial group of rising cricketers has been recommended for inclusion in the newly structured central contracts list.

  • New Faces: Arafat Minhas, Saad Baig, Hasan Nawaz, and Akif Javed are among the thirteen youngsters recommended by the coaching staff.
  • Rising Prospects: Other emerging players slated for inclusion feature Ali Reza, Ahsan Daniyal, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Maaz Sadaqat.
  • Extended Youth List: Razaullah, Azan Avais, Imran Randhawa, Abdullah Fazal, and Ghazi Ghori complete the recommended cohort.
  • Senior Exclusions: Experienced campaigners Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq are reportedly set to miss out on receiving central contracts this term.

Retained Core and Future Outlook

While the board introduces fresh blood to invigorate the setup, established leaders such as Test and white-ball mainstays Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Sahabzada Farhan are expected to retain their positions. They will be joined by established names like Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Fakhar Zaman, and Saim Ayub, though certain players may have their agreements restricted to specific red-ball or white-ball formats depending on team requirements.

The official announcement of the 2026-27 central contracts has faced delays beyond the expiration of the previous cycle on July 31. Board officials noted that the pause was intentional, allowing the selection committee and coaching staff ample time to thoroughly evaluate performances across ongoing domestic and international fixtures before finalizing the squad tiers.
