Walsall goalkeeper Jed Ward is producing elite-level contributions with both his hands and feet, quickly establishing himself as one of the standout performers in League Two. The 23-year-old shot-stopper joined the club from Bristol Rovers during the summer transfer window and has already made a massive impact under the guidance of head coach Lee Grant. His exceptional shot-stopping ability and modern distribution have helped propel the Saddlers to an impressive, unbeaten start across the English Football League, drawing rave reviews from his teammates and coaching staff alike.
Stellar Goalkeeping and an Outrageous Assist
Ward added another dimension to his game during a commanding 3-0 victory over Oldham Athletic, delivering a moment of magic that caught everyone by surprise. The young custodian executed a pin-point, low through-ball from deep inside his own half to set up Tai Sodje for the opening goal. Beyond his unexpected playmaking abilities, Ward continues to excel in his primary duties between the posts, anchoring the defensive unit with maturity and composure.
- Ward has kept eight clean sheets in 13 appearances across all competitions since his summer arrival.
- He currently leads League Two with an 86% save percentage, making 43 stops from 50 efforts on target.
- The recent 3-0 win over Oldham featured an outrageous 50-yard assist that caught the opposition completely off guard.
- Walsall remains the only unbeaten team in the EFL after 11 matches under the leadership of Lee Grant.
Building Momentum for Promotion
The stellar form of the defensive unit, combined with goals from top-scorer Aaron Pressley, has placed the club in a strong position as they target promotion. Despite playing the final half hour of their recent fixture with ten men following a red card, the squad showed immense character to secure the three points. With a crucial upcoming home fixture against league leaders Salford on the horizon, Walsall will look to maintain their high standards and prove they possess the depth required to sustain their promotion charge throughout the entire campaign.
