Vozinha is finding life difficult in South America after his heroic performances at the World Cup turned him into a global celebrity. However, the veteran goalkeeper has struggled for regular playing time and privacy since joining his new club in July. Because of his sudden fame, the player admitted that he misses his peaceful life before the tournament.
- Vozinha achieved global fame after helping Cape Verde hold Spain to a draw at the World Cup.
- The 40-year-old goalkeeper currently has over 27 million followers on his Instagram account.
- He moved to Chile in July and signed a contract with top club Colo Colo.
- The former journeyman has appeared in only five matches for his new team so far.
Struggling For Form And Privacy
After the tournament, the veteran goalkeeper signed a six-month contract with Chilean side Colo Colo. Earlier, he was a virtual unknown who had spent his career playing in Portugal, Cyprus, and Slovakia. Meanwhile, his social media following ballooned from fifty thousand to millions in just a few hours. As a result, he now struggles with a complete lack of privacy wherever he goes.
On the pitch, things have not gone according to plan for Vozinha. Therefore, local media outlets have started questioning whether he will remain with the Santiago-based club into next year. Later, the player confessed to reporters that he sometimes wishes for his old routine back. Because of strict contract clauses, he must play enough minutes to secure an automatic extension.
Career Background And Future
Before turning professional, the Cape Verde international actually worked as a rubbish collector and played beach volleyball. Now, global brands like Adidas and Pepsi frequently hire him for advertising campaigns. Also, he recently attended the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London after finishing sixth in the goalkeeper voting. Later, he hopes to focus on winning the domestic title with his current team.
Meanwhile, criticism has also arrived from local experts regarding his on-field performances. Colo Colo is currently closing in on the Chilean league title and a spot in the Copa Libertadores. Because his future remains uncertain, Vozinha stated that all his focus rests on the upcoming fixtures. After this crucial week, the veteran will finally make a decision about his next career steps.
