West Indies claimed a dominant eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh on the fourth day of the opening Test in Mirpur, securing a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Paced by an outstanding unbeaten knock from Brandon King, the visitors comfortably chased down the target after stellar bowling performances dismantled the home side’s batting lineup.
- Brandon King: Struck a career-best 81 not out from 115 balls, featuring 10 fours and a single six.
- Jomel Warrican: Named player of the match after claiming 4-63 in the second innings to finish with impressive match figures.
- Roston Chase: Picked up 5-36 in Bangladesh’s second innings to stifle any hopes of a substantial target.

Match Situation and Run Chase
Resuming the fourth day on 79-6 with a narrow lead of 106 runs, Bangladesh failed to build a substantial total and were eventually bowled out for 142 in their second innings. Jomel Warrican and Roston Chase exploited the helpful conditions efficiently, wrapping up the remaining wickets early in the morning session. Chasing a modest target of 170, West Indies encountered minor interruptions due to rain and bad lighting in Mirpur. Openers Brandon King and John Campbell established a solid foundation before Campbell was dismissed for 49 by Shoriful Islam. Despite a dropped chance while on 70, King remained composed, guiding his team past the finishing line in 35.1 overs.
What Happens Next
With this commanding win, West Indies hold all the momentum heading into the second and final Test of the series, which is scheduled to commence in Sylhet on November 5. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto acknowledged his side’s shortcomings across all departments, emphasizing the urgent need for tactical adjustments and better execution under pressure. Meanwhile, the victorious visitors will look to maintain their sharp discipline and secure a clean sweep away from home.
