India A endured a disastrous start to their tour series, getting bundled out for a meager 113 runs in under 40 overs on Day 1 of the first unofficial Test against New Zealand A at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln on Saturday. Asked to bat first on a lively green-top pitch, the visiting batting lineup failed to cope with disciplined seam bowling, recording five ducks in a dismal scorecard performance.

  • Total Collapse: India A were bowled out for 113 in fewer than 40 overs on the opening day.
  • Five Ducks: KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar and others failed to open their accounts.
  • Keene’s Five-For: New Zealand A seamer Simon Keene finished with an impressive five-wicket haul.
  • Resilient Knock: Yash Rathod remained unbeaten on 44, steering India past the 100-run mark.

Match Situation and Bowlers’ Dominance

New Zealand A’s right-arm seam attack exploited the favorable bowling conditions expertly. KL Rahul departed early in the third over without scoring, setting a nervous tone for the innings. Zak Gibson and Simon Keene dismantled the top and middle order. Sai Sudharsan and captain Dhruv Jurel fell cheaply as the visitors slumped badly. Devdutt Padikkal attempted to stabilize the innings with a patient 32, featuring five boundaries, but regular breakthroughs kept the pressure firmly on the batting side.

Late Resistance and Series Context

As wickets tumbled at the other end, lower-order resistance led by Yash Rathod prevented total humiliation. Rathod played a gritty unbeaten knock of 44 runs, striking three boundaries and three maximums to push the team total past the three-figure mark alongside tailenders. For the bowling side, Keene spearheaded the attack with five scalps, supported ably by Gibson with three wickets, while Kristian Clarke and Fraser Sheat claimed one wicket each. The teams are scheduled to play three four-day unofficial Test matches.
