Veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has revealed that he never actively chased an international recall during his four-year absence from the national setup, crediting his family and a zero-expectation mindset for his remarkable comeback. The 36-year-old fast bowler made his return to India’s playing XI during the opening T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch, marking his first international appearance since 2022 following consistent stellar displays in the Indian Premier League.
Reflecting on the Four-Year Absence
Speaking about his journey back to top-tier international cricket, Bhuvneshwar emphasized that staying in the present moment allowed him to handle the lengthy hiatus without unnecessary pressure. Despite remaining completely out of national contention for four years, the experienced seamer continued rigorous training across fitness, technical skills, and mental conditioning while helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru claim back-to-back IPL titles in 2025 and 2026.

- The seasoned fast bowler claimed 45 wickets across 31 matches at an impressive economy rate of 8.52 during his successful stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
- He credited his family for creating an environment where a national team comeback was never discussed, which helped him maintain absolute focus.

Looking Ahead in the Series

Team management remains confident that his vast experience will prove invaluable in guiding a younger bowling attack through high-pressure moments in foreign conditions.
