Sanju Samson has heaped praise on young batter Naman Dhir following India’s historic run chase against New Zealand in the opening T20I encounter in Christchurch. Chasing a daunting target of 226 at Hagley Oval, India completed their highest-ever successful run chase in the shortest format, reaching 230 for 6 with two balls to spare to take a one-nil lead in the five-match series.
While Samson anchored the top order with a blistering 33-ball 67, a middle-order wobble threatened to derail the visitors’ momentum before Dhir delivered an explosive unbeaten 42 off just 15 deliveries to secure a dramatic four-wicket victory. Speaking to reporters after the match, Samson highlighted the youngster’s composure under immense pressure despite limited international exposure.

With a demanding international calendar that has taken the team across multiple continents, the team management has placed strong emphasis on maintaining physical fitness and mental well-being to cope with the rigorous travel schedule.
The action now quickly shifts to the second match of the series, scheduled to take place on October 24 in Christchurch. Both sides will look to fine-tune their strategies, with the hosts aiming to bounce back and level the series while the visitors seek to extend their advantage.
