IPL player retention list was revealed by the BCCI on tuesday. Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli will continue as skippers for MI, CSK and RCB respectively. The list included 27 players who were retained by the 8 franchises currently existing in the Indian Premier League.
Ahead of the mega auction for 2022 edition, the 8 teams were permitted a salary cap of ₹90 crores. Each team was allowed to retain a maximum of four players which could include upto three Indians, two uncapped Indians and two overseas players.
While Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders retained four players each, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to retain 3 players each. Punjab Kings retained only 2 players.
The 27 players retained by the 8 franchises include 8 overseas players and 4 uncapped Indians. One should also note that 2 new teams are being added to the league. The new teams are from Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
Let us look at the players retained by different franchises and the League fees agreed with each player. We will be looking at the amount remaining in each team’s salary purse as well.
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians retained Rohit Sharma for ₹16cr, Jasprit Bumrah for ₹12cr, Suryakumar Yadav for ₹8cr and Kieron Pollard for ₹6cr. They have ₹48 cr remaining in their salary purse.
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings retained Ravindra Jadeja for ₹16cr, MS Dhoni for ₹12cr, Moeen Ali for ₹8cr and Ruturaj Gaikwad for ₹6cr. They have ₹48cr remaining in their salary purse.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore retained Virat Kohli for ₹15cr, Glenn Maxwell for ₹11cr, and Mohammed Siraj for ₹7cr. They have ₹57cr remaining in their salary purse.
Punjab Kings
Although Punjab Kings retained Mayank Agarwal for ₹12 cr, ₹14cr is to be deducted from salary cap. They retained Arshdeep Singh for ₹4cr as well. They have ₹72cr remaining in their salary purse.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Kane Williamson for ₹14cr, Abdul Samad for ₹4cr and Urman Malik for ₹4cr. They have ₹68cr remaining in their salary purse.
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals retained Rishabh Pant for ₹16cr, Axar Patel for ₹9cr, although ₹12cr will be deducted from salary cap,Prithvi Shaw for ₹7.5cr, however 8cr will be deducted from their salary cap and Anrich Nortje for ₹6.5cr. They have ₹47.5cr remaining in their salary purse.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders retained Andre Russell for ₹12cr although ₹16cr will be deducted from salary cap, Varun Chakravarthy for ₹8cr however ₹12cr will be deducted from salary cap, Venkatesh Iyer for ₹8cr and Sunil Narine for ₹6cr. They have ₹48cr remaining in their salary purse.
Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals retained Sanju Samson for ₹14cr, Jos Buttler for ₹10cr and Yashasvi Jaiswal for ₹4cr. They have ₹62cr remaining in their salary purse.
