Fulham head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has insisted that the spotlight should remain firmly on the club rather than his own position as his team prepares to face Hull City at Craven Cottage in the Premier League this weekend. The Cottagers are currently sitting at the bottom of the league table with only two points from their opening six matches, having recorded four defeats and two draws.
Arbeloa arrived at the London club during the summer on a three-year contract following a brief interim spell in charge of Real Madrid. However, life in English football has proved challenging, with late goals conceded against both Ipswich Town and Manchester United costing his side crucial victories in recent weeks. Despite mounting speculation regarding his future at the club, the Spanish manager maintained that preparations for the weekend fixture have proceeded as normal.
Current Form And Match Situation
- Fulham sit at the bottom of the Premier League standings with just two points after six games.
- The team surrendered a winning position late in the match against Ipswich Town last weekend.
- Alvaro Arbeloa took over as head coach on a three-year deal in July following his stint at Real Madrid.
- Fulham have progressed to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup where they will face Crystal Palace.
Looking Ahead To Hull City
The upcoming fixture against Hull City represents a crucial test for the manager and his players as they hunt for their maiden league victory of the campaign. Arbeloa pointed to long stretches of strong performances against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Ipswich as evidence that the squad is capable of competing at the highest level. He emphasized that the primary objective is delivering a win for the supporters who have continued to back the team through their difficult start to the season.
Director of football operations Tony Khan orchestrated the appointment in the summer, taking a calculated gamble on the former Spain international. With internal scrutiny increasing due to the poor start in the domestic campaign, a positive result against Hull City is essential to ease the pressure on the coaching staff. Following the weekend fixture, Fulham face another crucial league encounter away against Coventry City.
