Virat Kohli steps down as the captain of the Indian Test Team. King Kohli announced the decision via his social media accounts a day after India lost the Test series against South Africa following their loss in the third Test in Cape Town.
Kohli came to the decision a month after BCCI selectors removed him as the One-Day-International team captain. It was Kohli’s decision to step down from the captaincy of the T20I team at the end of India’s ICC T20 World Cup campaign.
In his post, Kohli says that it has been seven years of hard work, toil, and perseverance every day to take the team in the right direction. He adds that he was completely honest to the job. Kohli remembers that everything comes to a halt at some point. He thinks it is time for him to step down as the Test Team captain. There were ups and downs to the role, but Kohli says that he never failed to give his 120%. King Kohli feels that it is not the right thing to do if he is not able to deliver. Kohli claims to have absolute clarity in his heart. He refuses to be dishonest to his team.
Virat Kohli thanks the BCCI for giving him the opportunity to lead his country for such a long period of time. Further, he thanks all teammates who bought into his vision for the team from day one without giving up in any situation. Kohli thanks everyone for making his journey so far memorable and beautiful.
