Men’s Ballon d’Or Awarded To Lionel Messi

Men’s Ballon d’Or awarded to Lionel Messi  for the seventh time in 2021. He had won the award in 2019, before it was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Apart from that he claimed the award in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015 as well.

It was at a ceremony in Paris that the award was announced. It was a well deserved award. His achievements in the year include captaining Argentina to glory winning the Copa America and claiming the Copd del Rey for Barcelona. He scored 38 goals last season for Barcelona from 48 games. After winning the first major international title of his sparkling career, which he spent solely with Barcelona, he left Camp Nou. This was in August. He moved to Paris Saint- Germain after that.

From just eleven games for PSG, Messi managed to score four goals. He was rewarded all the same, for his continued brilliance along the years.

As of now Messi has won the Men’s Ballon d’Or twice more than his main rival Christiano Ronaldo. This award will light up the different fan fight sites. Although it is good news for Messi fans, Ronaldo fans may beg to differ. The fact remains that both the players are good in their own respective ways.

Messi and Ronaldo have won twelve of the last thirteen editions of the award. The only exception was in 2018 when Luka Modric acclaimed the award.

The award jury included journalists from around the world. According to them, inventive Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski came second and Chelsea and Italian midfielder came to a close third. Christiano Ronaldo clocked in sixth on the table.

Congratulations to Messi on the big win. It was a well deserved award. He has proven himself worthy in the past, and yet again this year, winning it for the seventh time.
