Although Northeast played an aggressive game, it was not enough. Apart from the three yellow cards for their players,nothing came of their aggressive gaming. It was an intense match.
Chennaiyin FC managed to take the lead in the first half itself. It was Lallianzuala Chhangte who broke the deadlock. Chennaiyin FC were able to maintain their lead throughout the first half. The Northeast United team were out of luck in the first half. They did not score any goals. So, at halftime, the scoreboard read Chennaiyin FC – 1 0 – Northeast United.

However, Anirudh Thapa brought Chennai back in the lead with another goal. Mirlan Murzaev assisted him. Both teams kept up the attacking and aggressive game. As a result, there were more fouls and free kicks. Both teams were booked once each with yellow cards in the second half.- Reagan Singh of Chennaiyin FC in 55 minutes and Mashoor Shareef of Northeast United in 77 minutes.
