South Africa registered victory against West Indies in the T20 World Cup match on 26 October 2021. South Africa opted to bowl first after they won the toss. It proved to be a good decision.
West Indies batted first and put up a score of 143-8 in 20 overs. Lewis(56) scored the majority of the runs for West Indies, while others also contributed. L. Simmons(16), Pooran(12), Gayle(12), Pollard(26), Russel(5), Hetmyer(1), D.J. Bravo(8 not out). Hayden Walsh and Akeal Hosein(not out) did not manage to get any runs.
South African bowlers did a fair job restricting runs and getting wickets. They were able to knock down 8 of the 10 wickets in 20 overs. Rabada(1), Nortje(1), Maharaj(2), Pretorius(3). Lewis was the most crucial wicket, knocked out with a catch from Rabada in Maharaj’s ball.
The game changed when South Africa set out to chase. R. Hendricks (39), van der Dussen(43 not out) and Markram(51 not out) wrapped up the game in 18.2 overs along with 2 runs from Bavuma and some extras.
South Africa lost Bavuma to a run out and Hendricks was caught by Hetmyer. The South African team did not feel much pressure chasing the score, thanks to the batsmen being in great form. The South African bowlers also made sure that the target was not huge by restricting runs and getting wickets.
The combined effort of the team led to South Africa registering victory against the West Indies. It was a bad day for the West Indies as they returned defeated.
Anrich Nortje received the player of the match award for his efforts in fielding and bowling.
