Sri Lanka registered victory against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup match on Sunday 24 October 2021. The commendable batting from Charith Asalanka for Sri Lanka got him the Player of the Match award. Sri Lanka opted to bowl after winning the toss. Bangladesh were able to score a 171-4 from 20 overs. The runs were obtained mainly by the opener Naim(62) and Mushfiqur Rahim(57) along with Liton Das(16), Shakib(10), Afif Hossain(7) and Mahmudullah(10).
As the match progressed, Bangladesh were doing fairly well until Fernando bowled and caught Naim. Bangladesh lost two more wickets until Mushfiqur Rahim picked up the pace again.
At the end of 20 overs, Bangladesh were able to set a score of 171-4 from 20 overs.
Thanks to the techniques of the Sri Lankan bowlers, they got a target of 172 from 20 overs. The main scorers for Sri Lanka were Asalanka(80 not out) and B. Rajapaksa(53). The others contributed as well, namely Kusal Perera(1), Pathum Nissanka(24), W. Hasaranga(6) and Shanaka(1 not out). Fernando was not able to score any runs.
Although Sri Lanka lost 5 wickets and there were some pressure situations, they were able to win the match by getting 172-5 from 18.5 overs.
It seemed like Sri Lanka made the right choice to bowl first as they won the toss. Asalanka did a tremendous job chasing the score of 171, leading Sri Lanka to a victory.
The Bangladesh team tried well, but were not able to win the match. Both teams had a good chance, but Sri Lanka saw a great advantage when Asalanka started batting. He was in good form and was able to get 80 from just 49 balls.
Asalanka was the star of the game with the individual score which included 5 fours and 5 sixes among other runs.
In the end, Sri Lanka registered victory against Bangladesh in 18.5 overs. The batting techniques and the form of Asalanka are to be appreciated for Sri Lanka’s win for the day.
