Australia emerged victorious over South Africa in the T20 World Cup match on 23rd October 2021. Thanks to the tremendous bowling efforts of Josh Hazlewood, Australia was able to pin down South Africa at 118-9 in 20 overs. Australia opted to bowl first after winning the toss. They were also able to chase the target of 118 to get a 121-5 from 19.4 overs.
South Africa was not able to obtain runs as Australian bowlers were able to build the pressure. The highest individual score was procured by Markram who was able to get 40 from 36 balls with 3 fours and a six.
Even then, South Africa only got up to 118-9 in 20 overs. The aggressive bowling techniques of the Australian squad bore fruit when South Africa’s score was limited to 118. The Australian batsmen were able to chase this target within 19.4 overs at the cost of only 5 wickets.
It may be okay to say that Australia won the match without feeling much pressure. As they were able to restrict South Africa from setting up a huge target, Australia were able to chase it with minimum effort. The lead scorers for Australia being Steven Smith(35) and Stoinis(24) along with Warner(14), Marsh(11), Maxwell(18) and Wade(15). South Africans were able to get the Australian captain Finch for 0.
The bowling efforts of Australia were also commendable along with their fielding to restrict runs. The bowlers were able to get wickets, Starc(2), Maxwell(1), Hazlewood(2), Cummins(1), Zampa(2).
South African batsmen were out of form as far as today was concerned, the highest individual score being 40 from Markram.
South African bowlers were not up to mark either as they were unable to defend their total against the Australian batsmen. Although the bowlers managed to get 5 wickets, Rabada(1), Nortje(2), Maharaj(1), Shamsi(1) they were not able to win the match.
Australia were able to get 121 in place of the 118 target , and hence Australia emerged victorious over South Africa.
