Rumour: Lionel Messi Wants to Leave FC Barcelona Immediately

Barcelona legend and the highest goal scorer for the club, Messi wants to leave the club in the aftermath of one of his greatest defeats donning the chequered Maroon and Blue jersey.

Messi’s Barcelona was thrashed brutally by Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final match on Friday night with the final scoreline reading 8-2.

This new information is coming in after Gerard Pique openly offered to leave the club immediately on the night of the loss to make amends for its poor performance.

It is now being reported that Messi has informed the management to make necessary arrangements for his departure in the wake of the recent debacle in the league, where they lost the title to arch-rivals Real Madrid even after having a comfortable lead at the top of the table before the league was suspended due to the pandemic, and also after repeatedly failing to win Champions League Trophy since taking over as the first-choice captain of the club.

Reports are that Messi wants to reunite with his former coach, who famously took Barcelona to 6 titles in a single season, Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, who are also reported to be the front runners to grab hold of the Six-Time Ballon d’Or Winner’s services.

Messi is frustrated at the decision-making process of the club, selling youth to buy more experienced players. Messi is contracted to the club until 2021 and has a clause in his contract that he can leave as a free agent at the end of the 2020 season which in the end got expired in the month of May.

He has a release clause of 635 Million Euros, which is quite hefty for any club given the current financial scenario around the world. But it is also important to note that Barcelona has to strengthen their depleted side to be more competitive and to have a chance to win titles in the coming season in Europe.

So will they let him go in their rebuild process or will they make a team around him? Something which is to be seen sooner than later.
