Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and compatriot Lakshya Sen delivered a memorable campaign for India by claiming the women’s and men’s singles titles respectively with dominant straight-game victories in the finals of the Hylo Open Super 500 badminton tournament. Both shuttlers displayed exceptional control, tactical discipline and sharp strokeplay to outclass their opponents on Sunday and secure their respective championships.

  • PV Sindhu defeated eighth seed Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in a 39-minute women’s singles final.
  • The victory earned Sindhu 9,200 ranking points, strengthening her bid for the season-ending World Tour Finals.
  • Lakshya Sen outwitted Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 to clinch the men’s singles crown.
  • Both Indian shuttlers converted their first championship points to wrap up comprehensive wins in straight games.

Dominant Display by Sindhu

Former world champion Sindhu maintained total authority throughout her title clash against her Danish opponent. Coming into the match with an impressive head-to-head advantage, the second seed started aggressively and never allowed her opponent to settle into a rhythm. Deceptive net play and powerful baseline smashes allowed Sindhu to comfortably control the rallies. After comfortably taking the opening game, she continued applying pressure in the second set, racing ahead and sealing the match when Kjærsfeldt faltered at the net. The triumph marks her second title of the season and provides a significant confidence boost heading into the closing stages of the year.

Sen Outclasses Christie

In the men’s singles summit clash, Lakshya produced a masterclass against Jonatan Christie. Building on his previous success against the Indonesian at the Paris Olympics, Lakshya utilized his trademark speed and precise placement to dictate terms. Although Christie mounted a brief resistance in the opening game, the Indian star quickly wrestled back control through disciplined rallies and aggressive attacking options. The second game was entirely one-sided as Lakshya capitalized on unforced errors and maintained a relentless pace. A video review confirmed a crucial point during the closing stages, leading up to a comfortable finish as Christie hit the net to hand the Indian the championship.
