South Africa secured a remarkable 176-run victory over Australia on the fifth and final day of the third Test in Cape Town. Chasing a target of 288 for victory, the visiting Australian batting lineup completely imploded under intense pressure, getting bowled out for just 111 runs. Kagiso Rabada set the tone with a devastating opening spell, claiming three quick wickets and reaching a historic milestone in the process.
Match Collapse and Key Statistics
The dramatic collapse began immediately in the morning session as Australia lost two wickets in the very first over bowled by Rabada. The fast bowler removed the top order and claimed the key scalp of Travis Head caught at slip, making him the fastest bowler to reach 350 Test wickets. Spin wizard Simon Harmer then capitalized on the crumbling batting order, finishing with career-best figures of 6-16 as Australia folded in 37 overs.

Pat Cummins and his team must quickly regroup before hosting New Zealand for a four-Test series starting in December, followed by an arduous five-Test tour of India. Meanwhile, the memorable series triumph elevates South Africa back to the summit of the world rankings, confirming their status as a dominant force in international red-ball cricket. The pressure will now mount on the Australian selectors to address the fragility of their batting depth ahead of the crucial home summer and upcoming overseas assignments.
