Jose Mourinho delivered another tactical masterclass as Real Madrid secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Sunday. Kylian Mbappe starred for the visitors, netting a decisive late winner to cap off a brilliant individual performance with a vital double. The result halts Barcelona’s impressive nine-game unbeaten domestic run and completely transforms the Spanish top-flight title race, cutting the gap at the summit to just three points.
With this hard-fought triumph, Mourinho has now gone six consecutive El Clasico matches without a defeat across his managerial stints with Los Blancos. The Portuguese coach joins an elite group of Real managers, matching the historic feats achieved by Miguel Munoz and Vicente del Bosque. Real Madrid have now registered five consecutive victories across all competitions, showcasing a remarkable resurgence since Mourinho returned to the club earlier this summer for his second spell in charge.
Match Highlights
- Decisive Strike: Kylian Mbappe scored a brilliant double, sealing the victory with a late goal at the Camp Nou.
- Title Race Shift: The 2-1 win reduces Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga down to only three points.
- Unbeaten Streak: Mourinho entered the history books as just the third Real manager to go six El Clasicos unbeaten.
- Managerial Reaction: Mourinho praised his squad’s balance and calmness, while Barcelona boss Hansi Flick admitted his side lacked freshness.
Title Race Implications and Manager Reactions
A defeat for Real Madrid would have allowed Barcelona to pull away with a commanding nine-point advantage at the top of the table. Instead, the resilient victory breathes new life into the championship battle. Mourinho emphasized that his side played with composure and total merit to overcome their bitter rivals away from home.
Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick pointed to fatigue following a demanding stretch of fixtures. The German tactician noted that small margins decided the outcome of the high-stakes encounter, stressing that his squad must quickly recover and respond in the upcoming rounds of the domestic campaign.
