Promising young bowling all-rounder James Minto has committed his long-term future to Durham by signing a new two-year professional contract that runs until the conclusion of the 2028 domestic season. The 18-year-old left-armer successfully graduates from a rookie agreement following a series of impressive displays across formats for both his county side and the England Under-19 setup.
Minto initially burst onto the domestic scene when he made his maiden first-class appearance against Surrey at the tender age of 16. Since that breakthrough moment, the talented teenager has featured in seven first-class matches, capturing 14 wickets and recording career-best figures of 5-21 during a competitive fixture against Zimbabwe A in Harare. Beyond his bowling credentials, Minto has also demonstrated significant capability with the bat, establishing himself as a genuine all-rounder.

Future Prospects
Durham’s director of cricket, Ryan Campbell, expressed immense satisfaction regarding the youngster’s progression and long-term commitment. Campbell noted that Minto possesses vast potential and has consistently delivered strong performances whenever called upon by the county or the international youth setup. The coaching staff anticipates watching the teenager evolve significantly with both bat and ball in the upcoming seasons as Durham builds for the future.
Having already experienced the rigors of the County Championship alongside limited-overs outings in the One-Day Cup and the T20 Blast, Minto is well-positioned to cement a regular spot in the senior starting XI. The security of this multi-year deal allows the emerging prospect to focus entirely on his technical development without the immediate pressure of an expiring agreement.
