The Indian women’s cricket team will look to complete a dominant 3-0 series sweep when they face Zimbabwe in the final T20I fixture in Raipur on Tuesday. Under the newly appointed full-time leadership of Smriti Mandhana, the hosts aim to close out the home assignment in style after overcoming early jitters in the opening match of the series.
Zimbabwe, touring India for the very first time, surprised the home side initially by reducing them to 19/4 while defending a modest 114-run target on a slow surface. However, veteran experience and emerging talent steadied the ship, enabling India to take an unassailable 2-0 lead following a commanding nine-wicket victory on Sunday.
Series Highlights and Performances
- Mandhana’s Form: Skipper Smriti Mandhana led from the front in the second encounter, scoring an unbeaten 47 off just 25 deliveries.
- Shafali’s Power: Opening partner Shafali Verma smashed a blistering 55 off 25 balls to secure a comfortable nine-wicket win for the hosts.
- Niki’s Rise: Twenty-year-old all-rounder Niki Prasad claimed match-winning figures of 2/7 in the second T20I after staying unbeaten with the bat in the opener.
- Batting Assessment: The final match presents another opportunity for Anushka Sharma to cement her place at No. 3 in the absence of injured Jemimah Rodrigues.
Building Momentum Ahead of Major Fixtures
For India, establishing strong opening partnerships and ironing out middle-order vulnerabilities remains a key priority with major international tournaments on the horizon. Mandhana’s return to aggressive form, featuring a strike rate climbing above 150 through 2026, provides a massive boost at the top of the order alongside Shafali, who remains the leading run-scorer this calendar year.
Meanwhile, visiting Zimbabwe continues their search for a breakthrough T20I victory in 2026 after dropping consecutive matches. The touring side will rely heavily on opener Kelis Ndhlovu to deliver a solid start and look towards off-spinner Nyasha Gwanzura to recreate the early pressure that troubled the Indian top order during the series opener in Raipur.
