Manolo Marquez and Mumbai City FC have mutually agreed to part ways for the remainder of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season. Following a disappointing start to the campaign, the management announced the departure of their head coach on Friday. Officials confirmed that both parties decided to terminate the contract after a series of underwhelming performances.
- Mumbai City FC failed to secure a single victory in their opening four league matches.
- The team suffered defeats against Churchill Brothers and Sporting Club Delhi under his guidance.
- Draws against Kerala Blasters and Punjab FC further complicated their early campaign progress.
- The Spanish tactician leaves the Mumbai-based club after joining on a one-year contract ahead of the season.
Season Struggles and Squad Situation
Earlier, the management brought the experienced coach to the club because of his proven track record in domestic football. However, results failed to match expectations as the squad struggled to find consistency on the pitch. Meanwhile, club officials expressed full confidence in the current group of players despite the poor run.
Because of this mutual decision, the club will now look for a replacement to salvage their campaign. Officials stated that further announcements regarding the coaching setup will follow through official channels. As a result, players must refocus quickly ahead of their upcoming fixtures in the tournament.
Legacy in Indian Football
Earlier achievements highlighted the coach’s prominent stature within the national football circuit since his arrival in 2020. Later, he guided Hyderabad FC to their maiden major trophy by winning the ISL Cup in the 2021-22 season. After three successful years with the Nizams, he moved to FC Goa and secured back-to-back Super Cup titles.
Additionally, he managed the Indian national team while balancing his club responsibilities concurrently. Although his chapter with the Islanders ended abruptly, his overall influence on the league remains significant. Management reiterated that the squad will maintain its focus on achieving primary objectives for the remainder of the season.
