Sussex Names Beth Barrett-Wild as First Female Chief Executive

Beth Barrett-Wild has been appointed as the first female chief executive in the history of Sussex, marking a significant milestone for the county club. Also, she will officially step into the new position starting January after completing her long tenure with the governing body. Furthermore, the historic move brings fresh leadership to the county as they plan for future growth and development.

  • Beth Barrett-Wild will assume her duties as chief executive on January 1.
  • She previously spent 13 years working with the England and Wales Cricket Board.
  • Former England bowler Holly Colvin is proposed as a new non-executive director.
  • Five new board members face final ratification at the annual general meeting.

Leadership Changes at Sussex

During her time with the cricket board, Beth Barrett-Wild directed the women’s professional game and managed major tournament operations. Meanwhile, club chair Ed Warner praised her past achievements in elevating the women’s game to unprecedented levels. As a result, the management team expects her extensive administrative experience to benefit the county significantly.

Later, the club announced several additional changes to strengthen its governance structure moving forward. However, these appointments still require formal approval from members during the upcoming meeting in March. Therefore, the new leadership group will officially begin their three-year terms only after that vote concludes.

New Board Additions

Alongside Beth Barrett-Wild, former international cricketer Holly Colvin joins a group of five proposed non-executive directors. Also included in the lineup is former Sussex Women’s player Alison Bruce, bringing valuable on-field perspective. Meanwhile, entrepreneur Paul Farris, business owner Mark Jeffries, and journalist Callum May complete the nominated intake.

Because these candidates bring diverse professional backgrounds, the club anticipates a well-rounded approach to future strategic decisions. Earlier, Holly Colvin represented the county with distinction between 2005 and 2015 before transitioning to administrative roles. Now, this group aims to guide Sussex through its next major chapter both on and off the pitch.
