Australia Women’s historic first-ever bilateral tour of South Africa has been officially postponed by a week to accommodate participation in the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy. The multi-format series will now run from March 24 to April 18, shifting the original calendar to clear room for the global tournament concluding on February 28 in India.
Cricket South Africa confirmed the adjusted itinerary, which features three T20 Internationals, three One-Day Internationals counting toward the ICC Women’s Championship, and a historic one-off Test match. The tour brings top-tier international action to multiple venues across South Africa.
Series Schedule and Format Breakdown
- T20I Leg: Three matches played between March 24 and March 30 across Kimberley, Benoni, and Potchefstroom.
- ODI Leg: Three fixtures scheduled from April 3 to April 10 in Durban, Paarl, and Gqeberha, serving as crucial qualification matches.
- Black Day ODI: The opening ODI in Durban will be dedicated to raising awareness for the national gender-based violence crisis.
- Test Finale: A historic four-day Test match running from April 15 to April 18 at Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium in KuGompo City.
Context and Significance
This upcoming tour marks a monumental milestone as Australia’s first full bilateral visit to South Africa for the women’s national team. The adjustment highlights the increasing complexity of the international cricket calendar as governing bodies balance expanding global events like the Champions Trophy with bilateral commitments. Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki acknowledged the cooperative effort required from both boards to finalise the new dates.
The tour concludes with only the second-ever women’s Test match between these two powerhouse cricketing nations. Their previous meeting in this format occurred in Perth during February 2024, where the visiting Australian side secured a comprehensive victory by an innings. South Africa will aim for a much stronger performance on home soil, backed by passionate local crowds eager to witness world-class women’s cricket.
