Spinner Simon Harmer then capitalized on the pressure by wrapping up the innings, finishing with stunning figures of 6 for 16 from 21.4 overs as Australia collapsed to 111 all out. The victory sealed a hard-fought series triumph after South Africa had dropped the opening match in Durban following a lengthy layoff from the longest format of the game.
Climbing To The Top Of The Rankings
Beyond the immediate drama of the Cape Town encounter, the victory propelled South Africa past Australia to claim the number one position in the official ICC Test rankings. The Proteas will now look to build on this momentum as they cement their status at the top of international red-ball cricket.
