Bangladesh batter Mominul Haque has been forced out of the ongoing first Test against the West Indies in Dhaka after suffering a head injury while fielding. The experienced left-hander sustained the blow shortly after the lunch break on the third day while attempting a sharp catch close to the bat. Following medical evaluation by the team physio, he was officially ruled out of the remainder of the fixture and replaced by wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali under concussion substitution rules.
Incident and Medical Update
The accident occurred during the 78th over of the West Indies’ first innings when Joshua Bishop defended an offspin delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The ball flew rapidly towards Mominul stationed at short leg. He dived to claim the catch but lost control upon impact, hitting the turf face-first while wearing his helmet. Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed that Mominul displayed clear symptoms of concussion, necessitating his immediate withdrawal from the field of play for safety protocols.

Match Situation and Impact
Jaker Ali was thrust straight into the action during Bangladesh’s second innings following a top-order collapse. He arrived at the crease shortly after captain Najmul Hossain Shanto fell to Roston Chase, marking the bowler’s third dismissal of the innings. Bangladesh found themselves struggling under immense pressure at 34 for 4 before rain forced an early tea break, holding a slender lead of just 61 runs. The inclusion of Jaker provides middle-order reinforcement as the team attempts to recover from a challenging position in the opening match of the series.
