England batter Ben Duckett etched his name into the history books after smashing a magnificent 132-ball 167 during the sixth match of the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday. The explosive left-hander registered his second consecutive century of the series and his third overall at the famous venue, scripting several remarkable milestones in the process.
Record-Breaking Knock in Lahore
Duckett’s blistering innings propelled England to a commanding total against Sri Lanka as he continued his phenomenal run of form in sub-continental conditions. His exceptional ability to dominate spin and pace alike left the opposition bowling attack completely short of answers during the middle and death overs.
- First Overseas Milestone: Duckett became the first overseas batter in cricket history to score three ODI centuries at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
- Elite Company: He equalled the record for the most ODI centuries by a visiting batter in Pakistan, joining legends Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara.
- Rare 150-Plus Feat: The opener became the first player to record two individual scores of 150 or more in ODIs hosted in Pakistan.
- Chasing Dhoni: With 573 runs across seven ODIs in the country at an average of 81.85, Duckett sits behind only MS Dhoni among players with 500-plus runs in Pakistan.
Context and Significance for England
This stellar knock cements Duckett’s status as one of England’s premier limited-overs operators in foreign conditions. Having previously notched up a brilliant 165 against Australia at the same venue during the 20th-century showpieces, his comfort level in Lahore has been exemplary. Maintaining an average of 118.75 across four ODI innings at the ground further highlights his dominance.
As England continue their preparations for upcoming major tournaments, Duckett’s supreme touch at the top of the order offers immense stability and firepower. The team management will be hoping the dynamic opener can sustain this prolific run as the tri-series heads toward its decisive final stages.
