Former England fast-bowling great James Anderson has officially taken on a new co-ownership role with the Napoli Knights franchise in the inaugural Italia T10 League, which is scheduled to commence next month. The announcement arrives shortly after the conclusion of Anderson’s historic 25-year playing career with Lancashire, leaving the long-term playing future of England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker open to new ventures.

The newly formed Italia T10 League confirmed that the 44-year-old seamer will be joined by former Lancashire wicketkeeper Luke Sutton as co-owners of the Naples-based team. The franchise operates under the umbrella of Activate Sport & Leisure, a prominent British sports consulting and talent management agency. The tournament itself runs from November 18 to November 29 and features six competitive teams aiming to elevate cricket’s presence in Italy.

Franchise Leadership and Strategic Vision

  • James Anderson and Luke Sutton were named co-owners of the Napoli Knights franchise.
  • The inaugural Italia T10 League runs from November 18 to November 29 with six participating teams.
  • Activate Sport & Leisure, a British talent management agency, oversees the franchise.
  • The competition was founded by Apex T10 Limited, headed by former county batter Nadeem Shahid.

Expanding Cricket in Emerging Markets

Interest in cricket within Italy has grown steadily following the national team’s qualification for the T20 World Cup earlier this year, highlighted by a notable group-stage victory over Nepal. Tournament officials believe the addition of high-profile English county veterans will bring crucial commercial visibility and operational expertise to the emerging market.

Reflecting on his transition from the playing field to franchise management, Anderson expressed enthusiasm for contributing to the sport through a different lens. League founder Nadeem Shahid noted that the involvement of highly competitive figures from the English county circuit marks a monumental statement for the tournament’s ambitions. Meanwhile, Luke Sutton emphasized that the partnership aims to leverage established relationships with schools and clubs to build a sustainable and lasting foundation for Italian cricket development in the years ahead.
