The Gujarat Giants have successfully finalized their complete 18-player roster for the upcoming 2027 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season following the player auction held in Kochi on Wednesday. The franchise, owned by Adani Sportsline, entered the auction with a robust foundation after retaining 15 players from their previous campaign at a cost of 13.75 crore rupees.
With three remaining slots to fill—including one overseas position—and a remaining purse of 1.25 crore rupees, management targeted specific balance requirements. Head coach Michael Klinger noted that the pre-season conditioning camp in Bengaluru proved vital for assessing squad dynamics and addressing performance gaps ahead of the competitive window.
Auction Signings and Strategic Additions
The franchise secured three new emerging talents during the bidding process to boost both their batting depth and bowling resources:
- G Kamalini: The stylish left-handed top-order batter from Tamil Nadu was acquired for 40 lakh rupees after starring as a key run-scorer in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup circuit.
- Orla Prendergast: The experienced Ireland all-rounder joined the ranks for 30 lakh rupees, bringing reliable medium-pace bowling and crucial middle-order resilience.
- Samaira Raghav: The 16-year-old explosive batter was picked up at her base price of 10 lakh rupees, offering heavy-hitting capability down the order with an impressive strike rate.
Retained Core and Tournament Outlook
The newly inducted players seamlessly integrate alongside an established retention core featuring international stars like Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Sophie Devine, and Georgia Wareham, alongside prominent domestic names such as Yastika Bhatia, Renuka Singh, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
Reflecting on the auction strategy, Chief Business Officer Sanjay Adesara emphasized the franchise’s ongoing commitment to discovering and nurturing young domestic talent alongside proven international operators. The Gujarat Giants finished second in the group stage during the previous 2026 season with five victories from eight matches, and management is confident that the newly structured 18-player squad provides enough flexibility to contend strongly for the upcoming 2027 championship title.
