Burnley have officially announced the appointment of Fabio Celestini as their new head coach, stepping into the role just days after the dismissal of Nicky Hayen. The 50-year-old manager arrives at Turf Moor tasked with immediately reversing a dismal run of form that has left the club struggling in the lower half of the division following their recent relegation.
Celestini brings a wealth of European managerial experience to the Championship side, having previously guided FC Basel to a domestic double during the 2024-25 campaign by securing both the Swiss Super League and the Swiss Cup. His most recent stint was in charge of Russian club CSKA Moscow, where he successfully claimed the Russian Super Cup before parting ways to take up this new challenge in English football.
Rebuilding the Squad
The newly appointed coach takes over a squad that has endured a torrid stretch of fixtures, registering only a single league victory this season and languishing in 22nd place in the table. Furthermore, the team enters this managerial transition carrying the unwanted burden of a winless home run stretching back over an entire year, magnifying the scale of the rebuilding project ahead.

What Happens Next
Celestini’s arrival coincides with the structural addition of Diego Lopez as director of football, who oversaw the recruitment process following the heavy defeat to Lincoln City. The leadership pairing will look to instill immediate tactical discipline and confidence into a struggling squad, with supporters demanding an energized response as the gruelling winter fixture schedule approaches rapidly.
