Celtic full-back Colby Donovan has committed his long-term future to the Scottish champions by signing a new contract extension that keeps him at the club until 2031. The 20-year-old defender has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, stepping up seamlessly to fill the void left by injured teammate Alistair Johnston in the starting lineup.
Manager Martin O’Neill expressed immense confidence in the young academy graduate, praising his exceptional work ethic and rapid development. Donovan made his senior debut in August of last year and has already accumulated 15 starts across all competitions this ongoing season, cementing his status as an important member of the first-team squad under the coaching staff.

Stepping Up When Called Upon
Having featured 27 times during the previous campaign, Donovan has continued his upward trajectory with consistent performances under pressure. His steady rise through the youth ranks culminated in a senior international squad inclusion earlier in the autumn during the UEFA Nations League fixtures, even though he is still awaiting his first senior cap on the international stage.
Reflecting on his journey, the defender emphasized the importance of self-belief for academy graduates striving to make an impact in a competitive environment. With his immediate and long-term future now secured in Glasgow, Donovan aims to maintain his development and cement his place in the starting eleven for years to come.
