Indian opening batter Abhishek Sharma has offered an honest response to mentor Yuvraj Singh’s humorous social media jab after narrowly missing out on the legendary all-rounder’s record 12-ball half-century. Abhishek delivered a sensational performance during the third T20 international against New Zealand in Wellington, hammering a brilliant century to power his team to a commanding victory and an unassailable series lead.
During the match, the explosive left-hander reached his fifty in 15 deliveries before accelerating to complete a magnificent hundred off just 35 balls. Shortly after the conclusion of the game, Yuvraj took to social media with playful banter, teasing the young star that he still could not match his iconic 12-ball fifty set during the 2007 T20 World Cup against England.
Mentorship and Record-Breaking Form
- Abhishek Sharma reached his half-century in 15 balls during the third T20I against New Zealand.
- Yuvraj Singh holds the record for the fastest T20I half-century by an Indian in 12 balls.
- Abhishek ultimately scored a phenomenal 35-ball century to seal a six-wicket win.
- India took a dominant 3-0 lead in the ongoing five-match T20I series.
Reflecting on the Challenge
Addressing the veteran’s lighthearted remark during the post-match presentation ceremony, Abhishek admitted that repeating such an extraordinary milestone is extremely difficult in modern cricket. He emphasized that batters do not actively chase individual records of that magnitude, noting that the primary objective is always securing victory for the team.
The young opener credited his exceptional run of form to rigorous training sessions behind the scenes, particularly praising the coaching staff for utilizing sidearm deliveries to prepare for testing international conditions and bowling variations. With India securing a comfortable six-wicket win to wrap up the series with matches to spare, Abhishek’s aggressive approach at the top of the order continues to pay rich dividends for the national side on foreign soil.
