Ipswich Town Women captain Maria Boswell has boldly stated that the club is on an inevitable trajectory toward securing promotion to the elite Women’s Super League. The Tractor Girls have experienced a rapid ascent through the divisions in recent years, rising from the fourth tier in 2021 before consolidating their position after earning promotion to the second tier in 2025. Following a ninth-place finish in WSL2 last season, the team has started the current 2026-27 campaign in stellar form under the management of former men’s team player David Wright.
Speaking about the ambition coursing through the club, the 23-year-old defender highlighted the intense backing from the owners and the high caliber of recruitment as primary drivers behind her confidence. Ipswich currently sit third in the table after five matches, having bounced back from opening draws with strong consecutive victories. The squad is now preparing for a crucial upcoming home fixture against second-placed Sunderland at the Colchester Community Stadium this weekend.
Squad Ambition and Season Momentum
- Captain Maria Boswell joined the Ipswich academy in 2019 and was appointed club skipper as a 20-year-old back in 2023.
- Manager David Wright took charge of the team in April, guiding them to third place after five games of the 2026-27 season.
- The team started the current campaign with draws against Nottingham Forest and Southampton before winning three straight matches.
- Ipswich are scheduled to host second-placed Sunderland on Sunday at the Colchester Community Stadium.
What Happens Next
Boswell emphasized that while the long-term vision involves reaching the top flight, the playing squad remains strictly focused on day-to-day training intensity and matchday execution. By maintaining high performance standards during every single training session, the team hopes to accumulate enough three points to sustain their promotion push. However, the club captain acknowledged that ongoing success is not guaranteed and requires constant dedication from every single player as the competitive season progresses.
