Chennai Super Kings emerged victorious in the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Jadeja’s decision to return the captaincy to Dhoni seems to have worked out well for Chennai. After winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to bowl first. Their strategy did not work out according to plan. Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings was awarded the Player of the Match.
Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened for Chennai. The highest individual runs for the team came from Ruturaj Gaikwad(99). Gaikwad seems to be in great form as he misses a century by a mere run. Devon Conway(85 not out) displayed a commendable performance as well. Others who joined in building the team total were MS Dhoni(8) and Ravindra Jadeja(1 not out). As the innings ended, the team total came to 202-2 in 20 overs with the help of 9 extras.
Hyderabad bowlers failed to control the runflow and get wickets. They were unable to break the partnership between Conway and Gaikwad. By the time Bhuvaneshwar Kumar caught Gaikwad, it was too late. T Natarajan took the 2 wickets that fell in the Chennai batting lineup.
Abhishek Sharma and Williamson opened for Hyderabad. The top individual score for the team came from Pooran(64 not out). Others who joined the chase were Williamson(47), Abhishek Sharma(39), Markram(17), Shashank Singh(15), Washington Sunder(2). Although Rahul Tripathi and Marco Jansen were unable to score any runs, Jansen was still at the crease when the innings ended. With 5 extras, Hyderabad raked up a score of 189-6 in 20 overs.
Chennai bowlers were somewhat successful in limiting runs and getting wickets. Mukesh Choudhary picked up 4 wickets while Mitchell Santner and Dwaine Pretorious picked up a wicket each. As the game ended, Chennai Super Kings won by 13 runs.
