Kieron Pollard announced retirement from international cricket. The white-ball captain for the West Indies team, Kieron Pollard decided that he will retire from international cricket on April 20 2022. However, he specified that he will continue to appear in private T20 and T10 leagues throughout the world.
Looking back at his international career, one can see that Pollard was an everlasting underachiever in the maroon jersey. The 34 year-old legend made his ODI debut in 2007. Conveniently, he played his last series against India, which, over the years, has turned into a second home for Pollard due to his long association with Mumbai Indians.
Pollard announced in his instagram page on Wednesday, 20 April 2022. The post read, ” Hi all, after careful deliberation, I have decided to retire from international cricket. It was a dream of mine to play for the West Indies since I was a 10-year-old boy and I am proud to represent the West Indies for over 15 years in the T20 and ODI format of the game”.
As a feared T20 cricketer, he scored 2076 runs at just above 26 and 55 wickets from 123 ODIs and 1569 runs from 101 T20Is at an average of shade over 25. Further, he took 44 wickets. He was fearless against yorkers, and as one of the biggest six hitters, he effortlessly dug-out for straight sixes. He had problems with slower bowlers, and as other teams exploited this weakness, they were able to stop his advances.
As his 35th birthday is nearing, Pollard knows that he would need to get maximum income by playing leagues all over the world. As a family man in this post Covid world, Pollard found it difficult to hop from one biobubble to another with additional burden of international cricket making the job doubly difficult.
