Messi breaks Pelé’s record, with a hat-trick becoming South America’s top male goalscorer with 79 goals. It was in the qualifiers match for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar held on 10 September 2021. The match was between Argentina and Bolivia to determine the 10 teams qualifying for the World Cup. Argentina beat Bolivia with 3 goals – ARG 3 – 0 BOL.
The match begins and within the first six minutes, the referee blows the whistle 8 times for fouls by both teams. They have decided to play a rough game.
With many attempts missed and saved on both sides, the game proceeds to 14 minutes when Messi gets his first goal for Argentina, assisted by Leandro Paredes, a shot from his left foot to the top left corner.
At 23 minutes, Luis Haquin of Bolivia gets a yellow card for a bad foul. Lautaro Martinez gets a free kick in the defensive half.

The second half begins with ARG 1 – 0 BOL. The next goal came for Argentina by Lionel Messi through a shot by the right foot to the bottom left corner from the center of the box.
Messi strikes again in the 88th minute from the left side of the six yard box to the bottom left corner.
With an add on time of 4 minutes the match ends at 94 minutes with ARG 3 – 0 BOL and Messi breaks Pelé’s record to become South America’s top male goalscorer with 79 goals through a hat-trick.
