In the light of their latest shameful European Championship defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in their quarter-final match, Barcelona management has decided to sack head coach Quique Setien.
Quique Setien has become the first casualty of the wider restructuring of the first team. A new coach will be announced in the coming days FC Barcelona said in their statement.
Setien became the coach of Barcelona on 13th January 2020. During the seven months in charge, the first team has played 25 matches: 19 in the league, 3 in Champions League and 3 in Copa del Rey.
He is the second coach in the year after the club sacked Ernesto Valverde after Spanish Super Cup loss to Atletico Madrid when the club was comfortably sitting at the top of the league table.
Many players were unhappy about the decision and Messi even challenged the club management to reveal the name of players who were unhappy with Valverde.
16 Wins, 4 Draws and 5 Defeats are the final stats of Setien’s Coaching Career with the club.
Former Barcelona player Ronald Koeman or Xavi Hernandez is said to be his possible replacement with the former being the frontrunner to make the cut.
The club has also announced that it will hold its presidential election in March 2021, as Josep Maria Bartomeu has recently come under scrutiny for his club decisions.
As the club president has announced after the UEFA Champions League match loss, there will be changes in the club structure beginning next week. It is interesting to know that the process has already started.
It will be worth the wait to see what will be their next decision.
