Fast bowler Marufa Akter has been ruled out of Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy due to an ankle injury. Selectors confirmed the setback ahead of the tournament, which begins on November 12 in the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, the team will be led by new T20I captain Nahida Akter during the multi-nation campaign.

  • Marufa Akter misses out after sustaining an ankle injury before the tournament.
  • Shathi Rani and allrounder Jannatul Ferdus have both been recalled to the side.
  • Uncapped fast bowler Disha Biswas earned a spot in the 15-player squad.
  • Bangladesh will play their opening match against Pakistan on November 12.

Squad Adjustments and Captaincy Debut

Selectors made several adjustments to the 15-member touring party following the injury blow. However, experienced players like former skipper Nigar Sultana retain their places in the squad. Sobhana Mostary takes over the vice-captaincy role for this campaign. Meanwhile, batter Sarmin Sultana and offspinner Sultana Khatun were dropped from the side.

Shathi Rani returns to international action after missing matches since the 2024 T20 World Cup. Additionally, Disha Biswas steps into the senior setup after impressive performances during earlier tours. Later, the team assembled to finalize preparations for the opening fixtures in the UAE.

Group Stage Fixtures and Tournament Context

Bangladesh enters Group B alongside Pakistan, Thailand, the Netherlands, and Zimbabwe. Because the tournament features ten competitive teams, early momentum remains crucial for qualification. Furthermore, the opening match against Pakistan takes place at the Karwan Cricket Ground in Ajman. As a result, the management hopes the new squad balance delivers strong results.

This campaign marks Nahida Akter’s first major tournament as permanent T20I captain. Earlier last month, she assumed leadership responsibilities from Nigar Sultana. Therefore, the team enters a transitional phase with fresh leadership and youthful additions. Ultimately, players aim to overcome key absences and claim the regional title.
