Indian shuttlers Anmol Kharb and Tanvi Sharma secured impressive opening-round victories to advance at the Korea Open badminton tournament in Yeosu on Wednesday. Anmol overcame Canada’s Rachel Chan in straight games, whereas Tanvi fought back from a game down to eliminate Japan’s Manami Suizu. Meanwhile, senior Indian competitor HS Prannoy exited the Super 500 event following a hard-fought defeat against local player Yoo Tae Bin.

  • Anmol Kharb defeated Rachel Chan 21-19, 21-18 to reach the second round.
  • Tanvi Sharma bounced back to beat Manami Suizu 21-16, 12-21, 21-17.
  • HS Prannoy lost 15-21, 21-23 against Yoo Tae Bin in men’s singles.
  • Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K fell 22-20, 12-21, 22-24 to Chinese opponents.

Tournament Progress and Next Fixtures

Anmol carried her recent fine form onto the court after reaching the semifinals at the Hylo Open last week. Afterwards, she booked a challenging second-round encounter against second-seeded Japanese star Akane Yamaguchi. Furthermore, she could potentially face fifth seed Hina Akechi in subsequent stages of the competition.

Tanvi also displayed strong resilience during her opening match in South Korea. After dropping the second game decisively, she regained control to seal the decider. Both young talents carry India’s hopes forward in the women’s singles draw.

Setbacks for Experienced Contenders

Earlier, veteran campaigner HS Prannoy failed to convert crucial points in the second game against Yoo Tae Bin. As a result, the former world championship bronze medallist bowed out of the tournament prematurely. In the mixed doubles category, Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K also suffered heartbreak after losing a close encounter against seventh seeds Zhu Yi Jun and Li Qian.

These mixed results highlight the fierce competition present at the Super 500 event. The coaching staff will now focus entirely on preparing the remaining players for their upcoming matches. Tournament organizers scheduled the next round of fixtures for Thursday.
