Middlesbrough head coach Kim Hellberg has insisted he is solely focused on club matters rather than speculating whether in-form striker Will Lankshear will earn a surprise senior England call-up. Lankshear continued his remarkable scoring run by netting a brace in a commanding 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at the Riverside Stadium, cementing Middlesbrough’s position at the summit of the Championship standings. The 21-year-old forward has taken English football by storm since completing his summer transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, accumulating an astonishing tally of 15 goals in just 16 appearances across all competitions.
Scoring Phenomenon in the Championship
Lankshear’s blistering form includes 13 goals in as many league appearances, prompting widespread discussions about a potential international breakthrough. England head coach Thomas Tuchel recently stated that he would never rule out selecting players from outside the top flight, raising the possibility of the youngster featuring in the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Spain and Croatia. Despite the growing media attention, Hellberg remains entirely detached from the national team debate as he prepares his squad for the rigours of the promotion race.
- Will Lankshear has scored 15 goals in 16 total appearances for Middlesbrough this season.
- The 21-year-old netted twice in the 3-0 win against Charlton Athletic.
- He has registered 13 strikes in 13 Championship matches since joining from Tottenham.
- Hellberg praised the forward’s improved defensive contribution and high-pressing abilities.
What Happens Next for the Boro Star
With Lankshear outscoring several established Premier League names and even surpassing Harry Kane’s current goal tally for club and country this term, anticipation is reaching fever pitch ahead of the official squad announcement. Whether Tuchel decides to hand the former England Under-21 international his senior debut remains to be seen, but Middlesbrough will undoubtedly benefit from his ruthless efficiency in front of goal as they chase a Premier League return.
