Barcelona bounced back in style from recent domestic and European disappointments by securing a dominant 6-1 victory over Alaves at Camp Nou on Saturday. Hansi Flick’s side delivered a commanding attacking display to reclaim the summit of the La Liga standings, moving two points clear of closest challengers Atletico Madrid.
- Raphinha opened the scoring in the eighth minute and later added his second with a clinical finish to reach 15 league goals for the campaign.
- Lamine Yamal also netted a brilliant brace, scoring just before the interval and adding another with a composed finish in the second half.
- Fermin Lopez contributed significantly to the rout, scoring one goal and providing crucial assists for his teammates.
- Anthony Gordon sealed the comprehensive victory with a late strike before Mariano Diaz grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors.
Match Situation and Dominance
The defending champions entered the fixture under considerable pressure following consecutive defeats against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Real Madrid in the domestic Clasico. However, any lingering doubts were quickly dispelled as Barcelona took total control of the match from the opening whistle. Despite dealing with a makeshift defensive line due to injuries—which saw Frenkie de Jong deputise at centre-back and youngster Brian Farinas make his first start—the hosts’ immense firepower proved far too much for the Basque visitors to handle. Alaves struggled to contain the blistering pace and fluid movement of the home side’s forward line, finding themselves completely overwhelmed by halftime.
Looking Ahead in the Title Race
The emphatic triumph re-establishes Barcelona at the top of the table, two points ahead of Atletico Madrid after Diego Simeone’s side had temporarily claimed the lead with a win over Levante. Manager Hansi Flick praised his team’s reaction to adversity, emphasizing the exceptional levels reached by his attacking personnel. Barcelona must now quickly shift their focus to upcoming fixtures as they prepare for a crucial Champions League encounter against Aston Villa on Tuesday, followed by a high-stakes, table-topping league showdown away against Atletico Madrid next weekend.
